Why ride solo when your local bike shop runs a ride?

Local shop rides are where friendships start, skills improve and THURSDAY evenings and Saturday mornings turn into stories worth the coffee and cake afterwards. Here’s the lowdown on what to expect, why you should go, and tips to get the most from the experience.

What they are

• Rides organised by Odlin MTB.

• With routes that vary from short cruisey loops to full-on epics adventures.

• We aim to do a shop ride every Thursday at 7.30 April - September and 6.30 September - April

Why go

• Learn faster, they are a great way to develop your skills learn new ones from fellow riders.

• It a great way to find riding buddies with a similar pace and goals.

• Try before you buy. Demo rides or test bikes sometimes feature in shop ride programmes.

How they’re usually organised

• We will meet up in the shop carpark at 7.15 (Summer) or 6.15 (winter) on a Thursday. If for any reason the ride is canceled it will be posted on the website and in the shop.

• The intended ride for the evening will be posted in store a week in advance so you can choose if you want to join it.

• Turn-back points: where possible we will have planned turnaround or bailout points.

What to bring

• Helmet (mandatory).

• Spare tube, tyre levers and mini-pump or CO2.

• Multi-tool and a little cash or card.

• Water

• A snack for longer rides.

• Lights if riding early or late.

• Appropriate clothing for the forecast and potential weather changes.

Tips for your first shop ride

• Arrive 10–15 minutes early to meet people and check your bike.

• If nervous about group riding, mention it we are a friendly group who want everyone to get the most out of the rides.

• If you blow up, don’t be embarrassed; keep riding at your own tempo one of us will be there to help.

After the ride

• Stick around for a brew — it's where tips, local intel and invites to other events happen.
